چکیده

In numerical simulation where the underlying function is strongly directional, it is desirable to use a mesh that is adaptive both in size and in shape. In such simulation, a metric tensor is used to quantify the ideal size and direction locally at each point in the domain, which in turn deenes the local stretching and size of the triangles or quadrilater-als of the mesh. Given a metric tensor, the anisotropic meshing problem is to construct a good quality mesh satisfying the metric tensor. We present a new anisotropic meshing method which is called the ellipse biting method. Our algorithm uses the framework of advancing front to generate a close to optimal packing of ellipses. We then use the-Delaunay trian-gulation of the vertex set to generate the nal mesh. Because it generates an ellipse packing that respects the underlying control spacing, this new method produce a high quality mesh whose element size and directionality conform well locally to the given input. As part of this work, we introduces a set of operations including scaling, intersection, and union on ten-sor metrics. Then operations are used to formally deene distance among metrics and to extend Lipschitz condition and the notion of well-shaped meshes from isotropic metrics to anisotropic metrics.

Dense Glyph Sampling for Visualization

We present a simple and efficient approach to generate a dense set of anisotropic, spatially varying glyphs over a two-dimensional domain. Such glyph samples are useful for many visualization and graphics applications. The glyphs are embedded in a set of non-overlapping ellipses whose size and density match a given anisotropic metric. An additional parameter controls the arrangement of the elli...

Generate Good Mesh Respecting to Control Spacing

This paper presents an eecient algorithm to generate a well-shaped and a well-conformed mesh respecting to a given control spacing f(). A control spacing function is used to specify the desired element size. Here, well-shaped mesh means that the circumradius-to-shortest-edge-length ratio of the mesh is bounded from above by a constant; well-conformed means that the element size is within a cons...

Generate Good Triangular Meshes, Conforming to Control Spacing Requirements

To conduct numerical simulations by finite element methods, we often need to generate a high quality mesh, yet with a smaller number of elements. Moreover, the size of each of the elements in the mesh should be approximately equal to a given size requirement. Li et al. recently proposed a new method, named biting, which combines the strengths of advancing front and sphere packing. It generates ...

Point placement for meshless methods using Sphere packing and Advancing Front methods

For simulation of numerical problems, meshless methods have emerged as an alternative to mesh based methods and become popular due to several reasons. Primarily, mesh generation is a difficult problem, Also these methods have generated promising results in the accuracy of the simulations. Similar to mesh generation problems, meshless methods also induce challenging geometric problems. Partition...
